Yellow

Month of April 2013: The yellow group has worked on production of speech sounds while unscrambling words containing their target speech sounds and then using letters from each of the words to solve a riddle. They have also worked on putting together sentences containing their speech sounds. In addition, the group has worked on answering questions related to their target phonics patters which have been:  /r/ controlled vowels (er), ow/ou, and "oo" over the course of two weeks.  The first week focused on the the short vowel sound and contained words such as (book, wood, took, etc.). The second week focused on the long vowel sound and example words include (moon, pool, broom, etc.). 

Weeks of 2/25/2013, 3/4/2013, 3/11/2013, and 3/18/2013: The yellow group has been practicing the production of speech sounds while reading; completing activities where they answered questions related to a variety of topics/questions; participating in activities related to their target phonics skills of the week; looking at picture scenes and determining which pictures contained their target sounds. 

Weeks of 2/4/2013, 2/11/2013, and 2/18/2013: The yellow group has worked on reading a variety of stories to practice target articulation sounds. They have practiced placing a variety of words from the story into sentences and self-generating sentences using these words. In addition, the group has also worked on putting together their own silly stories by selecting words containing their target sounds falling into the category of noun(s), verb(s), or adjective(s).

Weeks of 1/21/2013 and 1/28/2013: The yellow group has worked on breaking a code and using their weekly high frequency words and words containing their target phonics pattern in sentences. They have also worked on determining if was or were belonged in a series of sentences. In addition, they have worked on reading short stories containing their target speech sounds.

Weeks of 1/7/2013 and 1/14/2013: The yellow group has worked on production of target sounds while taking turns reading and completing activities related to a story. They have also used triple blends to self-generate silly sentences and practice spelling words with their target sounds. 

Weeks of 12/10/2012 and 12/17/2012: Over the past two weeks the yellow group has used target speech sounds to self-generate a story. They also categorized words that contained their target speech sounds and target phonics patterns in the classroom (-wh, -ch, -tch). On our last group before break we completed a holiday cloze activity where the students were asked to select various holiday vocabulary words from a word bank and use these to complete a sentence they then highlighted each of their speech sounds within the sentences and practiced taking turns reading each sentence out loud.


Weeks of 11/26/2012 and 12/3/2012: The yellow group enjoyed making a short stories where they each wrote a sentence with their target sound on a strip of paper and then took turns reading the silly story composed of each group members sentences. They have also worked on a variety of worksheets with s-blends while unscrambling mixed up words and writing sentences about s-blend pictures.


Weeks of 11/5/2012 and 11/12/2012: Activities have included practicing articulation when filling in sentences with high frequency vocabulary words from reading. They have also continued working on their speech books which writing and spelling words containing their target phonics pattern. 

Weeks of 10/22/2012 and 10/29/12: Students worked on producing sentences containing their target sounds when focusing on their phonics patterns /sh/ and /th/. They also worked on articulation when answering questions about Halloween vocabulary and a Halloween story.

Weeks of 10/8/2012 and 10/15/12: 
Over the past two weeks the yellow group has continued selecting words that contain their target speech sounds at the beginning, middle, and end and placing them in their speech books. They have also worked on determining if their sound was in the beginning, middle, or end of a word during discrimination coloring activities.

Week of 10/1/2012: This week the yellow group continued to work on their book of target sounds and spelling  the words they selected which contained these sounds.

Week of 9/24/2012:  This week the yellow group practiced articulation when reviewing the blends addressed this week in reading "cr," "gr," and "tr." They worked on producing sentences with these words.  They also began thinking about words containing their target sounds because during the next few weeks the group will be making a book of their speech sounds.

Week of 9/17/2012: This week the yellow group focused on production of their sounds in sentences related to target words with their phonics sound short /i/. They also worked on reading articulation stories with the sounds they were working on and implementing strategies and cues in order to articulate words appropriately while reading out loud.

Week of 9/10/2012: This week the yellow group focused on production of their target sounds in words, phrases, and sentences. One of the activities completed during speech was sent home for additional practice. They also brought the books they selected for I PICK time this week and practiced identifying their target sounds within the story and reading from their books.

Week of 9/3/2012: This week the yellow group focused on production of consonant clusters, especially those containing s-blends (sk, sm, and sn). The students glued pictures of words containing these sounds on a snake. They practiced producing the sounds using the snake cue to assist with production or the words.

Week of 8/27/2012: This week the yellow group discussed various tips to assist with the production of /l/ and /l-blends/. They used these tips as they determined the differences between a series of two pictures with several items containing the target sounds. The students produced sentences containing the target /l/ and /l-blends/ when talking about the differences on their worksheets. Each of the worksheets were sent home on 8/29/2012 for additional practice.

Week of 8/20/2012: This week the yellow group identified the sounds they would be working on throughout the school year. They completed an activity where they illustrated an activity they participated in during the summer and shared it with their group members using their best speech. The students also played a BINGO game to practice production of their target sounds at the phrase and sentence levels.
